NETWORK BASICS

Network A system of interconnected computers and computerized peripherals such as printers is called computer network. This interconnection among computers facilitates information sharing among them. Computers may connect to each other by either wired or wireless media. A computer network consists of a collection of computers, printers and other equipment that is connected together so that they can communicate with each other.  


Network application
A Network application is any application running on one host and provides a communication to another application running on a different host, the application may use an existing application layer protocols such as: HTTP(e.g. the Browser and web server), SMTP(e.g. the email-client). And may be the application does not use any existing protocols and depends on the socket programming to communicate to another application. Ledger & Groups

The Ledger 
Ledgers are the entities under which similar nature of accounting are compiled to get a consolidated view of all the transactions and get the total after a certain period. Examples are Salary, Electricity, Repair & Maintenance, Furniture and Fixtures, etc.

1. Name Box: 

Enter the name of Ledger, in the alias segment you may enter a short name. 

2. Select the group under which the ledger will be created 



3. Enter the opening balance Configure F12 (functional key): You can also configure your ledger creation as per your requirement by using “F12” keys. 

Use of these features: 

1. Allow aliases along with names: This feature allows you to keep the aliases option along with the ledger name 

2. Advance entries Master: This will allow you to enter the data much faster 

3. Additional information can be provided against any respective Ledger, for example: Phone number of the party. 

4. Address: This feature is useful at the time of party Ledger creation. 

5. Contact Details: This allows you to enter the Name of the 

Contact Person. 

Creating of Multiple Ledger:

 Display or Alter a Single Ledger Account 
Information in display and alter is the same, hence only alter is discussed. Display options does not permit modification. Alter option is accessible only to customized users.

Deleting a single ledger account 
You can delete a ledger from the alteration mode by pressing <alt> + <D> 
(Tally does not allow deletion of accounts that have transactions. Therefore if you wish to delete any account you need to first delete the associated vouchers entries.) 

The Group
  
Introduction: In the current scenario all of the financial entries are done using Ledger or Accounts head. However it is more efficient and beneficial to Group or Classify Ledger entries. Grouping allows to identify and classify financial entries based on their nature, this helps to get a summarized concept about the entries.  
User may also opt for regrouping of elements. Accounts may be classified into four main groups such as:  
• Assets 
• Liabilities 
• Income  
• Expenditure 
Groups by Default (Pre-defined groups): Tally 9.0 provides you with 28 pre-defined Groups, which helps you to save from unnecessary burden of creating frequently used groups.  
Out of these 28 groups, 15 are primary groups and 13 are Subgroups. Subgroups are part of the Primary Groups. 
Primary Groups of Capital Nature 

Sub-Groups 

These are groups defined under primary groups.  
Examples: 
1. Primary Group: Capital Account Sub Group: Reserves and Surplus 2. Primary Group: Loans Sub Group: Bank Overdraft and Secured Loans 
If you create a group under a Primary Group, it would be called as User Defined Group.
Creating Ledger Group (Single):

1. Name Box: Enter the name of the Group 2. Under: Specify the Group under which it will be created

Altering or Modifying Group: 
Gateway of Tally  Master  Accounts Info  Groups  Single or Multiple  Alter 

Permanently Deleting a Group: 

Alt+D to delete the group, however as mentioned in case of Ledger, keep note to delete all the ledgers specified under this group before pressing Alt+D.
